Greek Coins; Bactria. Diodotus II ? as King 256-239 BC, Gold Stater (8.17 grams; 17.2 mm.), die-axis 6 o'clock.

Obverse: Bust of Diodotus II ? (young face) right, wearing taenia, surrounded by a border of dots.

Reverse: Zeus standing left, with agis draped over left arm, and hurling thunderbolt, on ground line. Greek legen: BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΔIOΔOTOY Of the King Diodotus. An eagle standing left at his feet, wreath above. Surrounded by a border of dots.

          The coin is die-identical with the specimen in the collection of the British Museum, London, England, (1879,0401.5). American Numismatic Society, New York, U.S.A. (1944.100.74365), (1980.109.108).

          They are many variations in design, this extremely rare type is genuine gold coin of the Imperial mints, solid gold not a filled metal electrotypes / reproductions.
